Commodore Nostalgia or a real revival ?

I have a bit of mixed feelings about the new batch of products coming from "Commodore" (same name, different company, Commodore went bankrupt in the early 90's) but if you need your dose of nostalgia check out the new C64, VIC and upcoming Amiga machines. No new custom hardware like in the old days but off the shelves x86 hardware building upon the all-in-one concept of the eighties homecomputers. The C64 looks like our old friend.

The VIC-model is a complete revamped keyboard model PC.

And the Amiga models 1000/2000/3000 have the form factor of the old models but look more like HTPC's.
With the machines comes a customized version of Linux Mint, called Commodore OS Vision.

I'm not sure if this is where the Commodore/Amiga fans were waiting for.
Real fans have already found their way to emulators like VICE (C64/128/VIC20) or UAE (Amiga, Amiga Forever is a compelete UAE package including ROMs ) or started using AROS to keep the look and feel of AmigaOS. Hardcore fans equiped their old Amiga hardware with a PPC-board and stayed up-to-date with the latest AmigaOS.

Yes ladies and Gentlemen, it is possible to run a 2011-OS on 80's hardware (I think the Amiga 3000 is the bottomline still...).

Interested ? Spend some time on the following links:
